A Global Rebrand, Expressed in Metal and Light

Shutterstock is one of the world’s leading creative platforms — a company whose entire identity is built around visual excellence. When they undertook a full rebrand, the bar for how that identity would be expressed in their physical environments was set accordingly. The new wordmark and logo needed to be fabricated and installed across a global network of corporate offices, each with its own architectural conditions, its own aesthetic, and its own set of installation requirements. The standard, however, had to be identical everywhere.

Halo-Lit Dimensional Letters: The Signature Treatment

At the core of the Shutterstock office signage program is a halo-lit dimensional letter system that brings the wordmark to life with a sophistication that flat or face-lit alternatives simply couldn’t achieve. Fabricated in brushed metal and mounted proud of the wall, the letters cast a continuous glow onto the surface behind them — creating a shadow and light effect that shifts with the ambient conditions of each space. Against the vivid orange of one New York workspace, the effect is bold and energetic. Against the neutral white of a reception environment, it’s refined and architectural. The same sign, reading differently in each context — which is exactly what great signage does.

The ‘S’ Mark: Signage as Sculpture

The most striking element of the Shutterstock signage program isn’t the wordmark — it’s the logo mark. The Shutterstock “S,” rendered as a large-scale halo-lit dimensional installation on a dark charcoal wall, is something that occupies the space between corporate identification and art object. The concentric ring elements of the mark float around the central letter form in cool LED-lit outline, creating a piece that stops people when they encounter it. It’s the kind of signage that makes a statement about a company’s confidence in its own identity — and it required fabrication precision to match that ambition.

Consistent Quality Across Six Countries

Executing a signage program of this scope across multiple international locations presents challenges that go well beyond fabrication. Different building standards, different electrical specifications, different permitting environments, different site conditions — all of it has to be managed without any of it showing up in the quality or consistency of the finished work. We coordinated the full scope across Shutterstock’s global office network, ensuring that the sign in Singapore met the same standard as the sign in New York, and that every installation reflected the level of craft the Shutterstock brand demands.

The Result

Across six countries and multiple office environments, Shutterstock’s rebranded identity now lives in physical space with the clarity and precision it deserves. Each installation is distinct in its environment — different walls, different scales, different ambient conditions — but unmistakably part of the same program. That coherence, maintained across a global rollout, is what a well-executed corporate signage program looks like.
